Métro Users Tip

For 100 years, the Paris Métro has shut down at 1:15am each morning (it opens at 5:30am). In January 2007, it was announced by the RATP (the Paris region transport authority), the Métro will run until 2:15am on Saturday nights (Sunday mornings, actually) and the eve of holidays. Also, the frequency of trains will be increased during the late-night hours to about every 7 minutes. This is great news, but some clarification is in order. Say you are riding the No. 1 line, from end to end, La Défense to Château de Vincennes. The Saturday 2:15am closing time is the time the last train pulls into the end of its line. So, if you were starting at La Défense, the last train heading towards Château de Vincennes would actually depart at 1:41am. If you were getting on the Métro around the middle of town, say Châtelet, the last train would arrive at 1:59am (subtract one hour from these times for Sunday-Friday). So, the closer you are to the beginning of the line, the earlier the last train arrives (it takes 30-35 minutes to ride most lines from end to end). When in doubt, during the week, if you want to be guaranteed a ride, get to the Métro by 12:30am; and, now, 1:30am on Saturdays and the eve of holidays
